August 22. 2017

We went to view the eclipse from Lake Lanier with David and Lucy Ceraso.  We took a pontoon boat from the lower end of the lake over an hour north above Gainesville, Ga.  We parked at an isolated beach, had a picnic, went swimming, enjoyed the eclipse and ended up at an Italian restaurant.  We were the only ones in the area.

The following pictures are representative of the 90 pictures that I took of which were narrowed down to about 20.  As you can see in the last photo, we got what I think was 99% of the eclipse.

The waterlilies at Gibbs Gardens were not as plentiful as in the past.  Here are a few pictures.

August 18, 2017

To be in vogue, it was suggested to me the this could be classified as "Fake Eclipse."

I am prepared for a rainy or cloudy day on this coming coming Monday when the Total Eclipse appears in the sky.  I have been practicing taking pictures of the sun, although the weather has not cooperated lately.

So just in case, I took this picture of the sun yesterday, August 18, 2017, at 3:00 pm.  I did not have time to have the waning of the eclipse.

Trust me... these pictures are from my camera and,

yes, my computer.  Thank you for photo processing.

Here is the picture that I used to make the crescents.

August 13, 2017

I was sorting pictures this morning and came across two pictures that I may have posted a long time ago.  There is much luck involved in capturing a picture at the right time and these prove it.  If memory serves me correctly, and there is always that question now a days... it is the same duck.

The first picture is a a duck jumping into the water.  I love active of the water.  (Click on the picture for a better view)

The second picture,,, well, could be a little indiscreet, but would make a great caption picture, as long as the caption is discreet.

August 6, 2017

Our travels yesterday took us back toward North Georgia around the Dahlonega area.  First stop was Auroria, just south of Dahlonega,  You have heard of the the 1849 California gold rush.  Did you know that there was a gold rush 17 years earlier?  In Northeast Georgia around Dahlonega and Auroria.  That is why Dahlonega is called the Gold City.

The first two pictures are building from that era; a general store and a s building that I think was a bank at that time, based on Wikipedia.  There area is over grown, but I here tell that there are other foundations there.

We stopped in Dahlonega for a late lunch at Linda's favorite eatery on the square.  Every Saturday, there is a Music Jamboree on the square, where local came an assemble in group to play, mosly mountain music.  Here are two of them.

The next two pictures are north of Dahlonega on Route 16, where Route 60 goes to the left toward Suches.  We went past this last week and I have traveled this road often, all the shile noticeing this pile of stones in the little triangle at the intersection.  The Historical Marker tells the story.  Yes, I did bring a stone from home and placed it on the others.

The last picture is of the lower fall and DeSoto Falls further north from the grave of Thahlyta.  The are two falls at the DeSoto Falls Recreation Area.  Our GPS has us go where the falls were not...  If there is a lower falls, there must be an upper falls.  The lower falls is a 1/4 mile trek, which we decided to do first.  The upper falls is a 3/4 mile trail.  Our thought was to take the easy one first.  It turns out to be steep.  We did not go to the upper falls due to my torn meniscus and Linda's plantar fasciitis.  But not to be deterred, we will return to see the upper falls.

For those who are up and out a 7:00 am in Cumming, the sun was vibrant.  This is taken on Castleberry Road.

The pictures of the barn were taken in Cumming as well on Stoney Point Road.  I did a little post processing on some new software; ON1, which I am using in conjunction with Lightroom, while in the learning stages.

August 1, 2017

We headed out yesterday for a day trip on State Route 60, from Dahlonega to Blue Ridge, Georgia.  There is an old mill called Skeenah Creek Mill, on the other side of Suches, GA, which I thought would be interesting to see.  It was a delightful day capped off when we stopped for lunch at a little cafe along the way where we met another couple, who retired to the area.  The conversation was most enjoyable.

The first picture is the view at the high point of Route 60 before you get to the town known as Suches.  I noticed three things about Suches.  It has a Post Office, a gas station with a small store, and a motorcycle campground/lodge called Two Wheels of Suches.  The restaurant is open on the weekend and Monday morning for breakfast and was closed when we arrived.

Not to our dismay, there were three, elderly, character types sitting in the rocking chairs on the porch, who were eager to talk and most interesting.

The next two pictures are of the mill and the remaining of a river along the road to Blue Ridge.
