November 11, 2017

Thank you to all veterans for your service to our great country!

These photos are from October 2012.  Linda and I took a weekend trip to Highlands, North Carolina and these are some of the waterfalls that we visited.  The truck has been posted a few times in the past and it was always intriguing to me.  I mentioned previously that it is no longer there, but the memory of it is.

November 5, 2017

We went to check out the foliage at Gibbs Gardens yesterday afternoon and was the case when we went to New England recently, the colors where not as vibrant as last year.  That is not to say that there was no beauty.  The skies were partly cloudy, however, when the sun came out the colors were very nice.

One had to be most patient, waiting for the sun to re-appear and for the people to move out of the composition, particularly those that wore bright orange or red outfits, that stood out in the background.  Linda will tell you that if you look up the word patient in the dictionary, you will not see my picture there...

The picture of the red leaves is a good example.  I waited almost 15 minutes to take this picture from the bottom side of the leaves.  They were almost black in appearance while the sky was cloudy.

The last two pictures were taken on the way to the gardens.

October 31, 2017

Linda and I took an afternoon trip to Camp Glisson in Dahlonega yesterday to take some pictures of the waterfall that is on the campground.  It is only accessible when camp is not in session.

We stopped for a picnic on our way there.  Delicious chicken salad sandwiches, sweet potato chips, an apple and some water.  We attracted some feathered friends, ducks and geese.

Apart from the falls, someone did a chain-saw carving on a tree stump and Linda was very patient, as usual, as I took pictures.

October 29, 2017

Back to downtown Bar Harbor, Maine where there are shops and lots of shops, where there are people and lots of people...  I hate to admit this, but some of the shops were quite interesting and the soda fountain at the Rexall Drug Store fascinated me.

At the end of Main Street is the harbor and on the day that we were there, the 'orangy-red' moon rose over the harbor. yet, I do know that the it did not rise and that the earth rotated until the moon came into view...  for you technocrats like me.  Unfortunately, my camera battery 'gave up the ghost'.  My spare was in the cah.

When in Rome... Georgia that is.

Here are a few of the sights from the air show.

October 22, 2017

I went to the Wings Over Rome (Georgia) air show yesterday with some friends and the feature was the Navy Blue angels.  It was my time to attend one and it was impressive.  Thousands of people were there.  Most of the these pictures of the Blue angles were cropped because I did not have a lens that is needed for this.

I read that the first time is a learning experience and they were correct.  The right lens, settings, and where you are positioned are very important.  Regardless, I was pleased considering that the pictures are not do not compare to the professionals.

There were many other planes flying and on display.  There was a jet-car and a jet-truck that ran down the runway.  They both were clocked at over 300 mph in 10 seconds.  If you would like to see the Blue Angels program, it is on You Tube.

October 15, 2017

Now for a break from Bar Harbor, Maine and back to the beauty of Gibbs Gardens.  For those that are able to go there, note that the foliage of the Japanese Maples is about two weeks away; last week of October and the first week of November.  The foliage picture was taken last year.

Linda and I went for a two hour visit yesterday and found a few Water Lilies.  I have never seen the white one before.  Instead of rising straight up from the lily pad, the weight of it probably caused it to bend over and look right at us.

The first white Water Lily is straight out of the camera, while the other three have been post-processed.  Both of the purple Water Lilies have been processed.

AGAIN, IT IS BEST TO CLICK ON A PHOTO TO ENLARGE THEN FOR BETTER VIEWING.
